Vegan Tacos, the Musical & Audience Participation
I’m usually a musical theatre show fanatic but during this particular day I woke up, sleep deprivation had peaked and I had yearned for a lazy day in the house. This was my 4th day without a lazy day and my body longed for solidary confinement. I tried to back out, but the tickets were bought, we’d made lunch plans so for the sake of it, I went (and looking back I’m glad I did)…
We first had lunch at this Mexican place and I had some vegan tacos. In the words of mum, my meal looked ‘like a garden bed’. But heck, I’ll take that as a compliment - filled to the brim with natural goodness!

Their décor was pretty cool too and would make a domestic blitz fan smile with pride
It was now time to watch the musical and boy, we had no idea about the series of events that were about to erupt…
Despite the fact that we got there much too early, it was already crowded with people - families, older people buying merchandise, reading a program, getting some cheeky snacks for the performance …
When the doors opened, we went to our seats. We were pretty happy because they were good seats - nice and close. During that moment in time we’d assumed closer seats were better… boy we were wrong…
The performance started and immediately there were these cats singing in unitards. What they were singing about? Who knows. It was this point in time when we’d realised that we should’ve bought a program to read the synopsis. Or maybe even have a check on wiki about the story situation. But it was too late, that “please ensure your mobile phones are switched off” announcement was already said on the intercom so turning your phone on from that moment on was pretty much a crime.
The singing didn’t stop. They just kept on singing…10, 20, 30 mins flew by and there were more songs, more SINGING. Don’t get me wrong, the performances were amazing - their dance routines were off the charts and their vocals were flawless but please cats please, try saying words once in a while. Your throat would love you for it.
And don’t even get me started on the audience participation - there was as much drama on stage than there was with the audience. There were cats standing on a ledge half a metre away from us, cats crawling through the aisles, direct eye contact between actor and audience (straight in the eye balls) one stole my sister’s jumper and another caressed her boob - she screamed. It was absolute mayhem. Who knew a musical would cause such anxiety? There should be a warning for that…
Here’s an example of a warning, musical theatre organisations, take note:
WARNING: musical performance will include people in unitards caressing your boob and stealing jackets, proceed cautiously…

Delta Goodrem was in it too - she was incredible, her singing was flawless but she sang the same song. Three times. Then some other cats joined in and sang their own rendition of that same song too. Dearest cats, maybe some variety next time? - perhaps some Iggy? Or maybe even some Queen B would be groovy…
All in all, I enjoyed the performance (despite not knowing what was actually going on with these singing cats or the ridiculously up close and personal actor to audience interaction). The dancing, singing, acting, music, costumes, props were incredibly spectacular! Would defs recommend you guys to watch it - if you can, just try sitting somewhere in the back (unless you’re fine with cats going all up on your grill).
“Because Jellicles can and Jellicles do” had been in my head since,
