Growing up, rice during meal time was a given. In fact, a non-rice dish was a rarity- there have been countless times where someone would say 'THERE IS NO RICE' and believe me, when this happened, all hell would break loose. There would be mood swings, arguments and absolute chaos. It was like we were different people, simply oblivious and coming to the realisation that we could not eat until more rice was cooked. You know how in primary school you had the 'no hat no play rule', well in my household there was the unwritten 'no rice no food' rule. Technically, there was food but we simply did not eat without the rice. Like, wth, as if we were going to eat rice-less, I mean come on, who does that?!?!...
Because rice was such a fundamental component in our diet, naturally we ate lots of rice dishes, one of them being fried rice. My parents hands down made the best fried rice and although I haven't eaten in so long (as they make it with egg and some form of meat), I decided to make my own fried rice recipe, with a few alterations. I used brown rice (cos ya know, white rice is waaaaaay too mainstream) It's so versatile and a perfect way to help you get your daily dose of veggies! You can add any veggies you have at hand but here's the ingredients I used and how I made it...
