Fave Vegan Restaurants
We Melbournian’s take our food very seriously. Food is not something to joke about, it’s definitely a banter free zone and ‘hangry’ is arguably one of the more traumatic emotions one could experience. If you’re newbie to Melbourne, here’s a word of advice: When it comes to food, this just got real. And in saying that, being a vegan foodie, I’ve searched hi and low for the best vegan restaurants and this guide is a list of my most cherished vegan discoveries.
The Veggie Bar
Located in Brunswick St, lies the vegie bar - a place to have a good feed with good company. The vibe there is always lively, buzzing with energy, keen for a hearty meal. Their veggie concoctions will blow your mind. From burgers, curries, mee goreng, pizzas, burritos… this list goes on…- If you’re craving it, they’ll probably have it. Must trys: pad thai, berry bonanza blend.
Yong Green Food
Tantalize your senses over a delicious meal whilst being immersed with Chinese décor. Having a range of vegan dishes on offer, from wraps, burgers, snacks, desserts and mains, their menu is sure to amaze you. With quick service, friendly staff and most importantly, yummy food, this is one to try. Must trys: dragon bowl, cacao shake.
Trippy Taco
Unleash the mexicano within and feast your eyes on some classic mexican dishes - veganised. The place is small but cosy and the staff are always welcoming. Offering large serving sizes (which you’ll salivate over), soy cheese which tastes like the real deal and quick delivery service, this is definitely a place to visit. Must try: Trippy’s Original Burrito with soy cheese. Apologies for no photo, the burrito mesmerisation just got to me...
The Organic Food & Wine Deli
In a hurry? They offer a range of organic ready made food to take-away. They have an assortment of gourmet salads, sandwiches, nori wraps, curries and so much more on display. Their organic philosophy doesn’t stop at food - having walls made of biopaint, certified organic straw, paper bags and bioplates, it’s definitely an environmentally friendly choice. The place is small, so during peak times it does get a bit crowded - but you won’t be in there for long as service is quick and you’re food’s already made beforehand. Must trys: tofu burger and soba noodle salad.
Lentils As Anything
Having a unique ‘pay as you feel’ mindset, the dishes don’t have a set price- you donate as much as you wish after your meal. The dishes on offer are set out on a table, buffet style and constantly are changing. They usually have a range of salads, curries, stir frys and many other veggie dishes on offer. Last time I went there, I had a plate filled with - masala, a curry, a stew and a summer salad. Despite the fact that I had this ages ago, I’m still salivating over how good this was!
