My Sister's Birthday Gathering
It was during this particular time when my sister Lauren was coming of age. For the sake of sentimentality, she invited some of her buds for a birthday gathering. I came along purely because of the fact that we share the same blood and therefore, it was of some significance if I came along. My friend Melinda- (you know too much about her, no intro needed) came along and this is where are story begins…
She held her gathering the night before her actual birthday. It was raining, we were humid in sweat and to be frank, no outfit could assist us in this spontaneous weather. She held her gathering in a rooftop bar and after huffing and puffing from the mountainpile of stairs to get there, we finally reached the rooftop.
My sister’s friends were there too (they we really nice) but for the sake of not ruining my sister’s groove, Melinda and I kept our distance so her and her pals could hang and talk about more adulty topics.
Instantly, Melinda and I we were left on a continuous spiral of confusion and social judgement perception. You see, the majority of people there were older than us to the point where we saw more grey hairs and bald patches than we would’ve liked. Although it wasn’t explicitly conveyed, we could tell we were being judged. For starters, our youthful looks were skin deep and could not compare to the moustache wearing lads, our outfit looked like we rolled out of American Apparel and sitting next to middle aged people really didn’t help the situation.
However, despite this, the rooftop bar was really cool - there were pretty bauble decorations hanging from the top, a pot plant here and there to give it a nature feel and the staff were really friendly and non-judgemental.
Also, their flower game was strong...
Melinda and I ordered some drinks and since we are uni students whose extent of cheapo is absolutely shocking, we ordered the cheapest things - mango ciders which were surprisingly bangin’.
We then took some mandatory snapshot photos because to my 40 snapchat friends, yes son, on the rare occasions I do leave the house and engage in stereotypical activities for the legal aged …

We then joined my sister’s table which was buzzing with rowdiness. The majority of discussion was filled with heated yelling but I think they were talking about travel or something but don’t quote me on that. Her mates were super friendly and I sat there, silently disapproving the wine glass that my sister brought into the toilet which was 10 cm away from me….
As it was getting late, Melinda and I left as my sister pointed at me (straight into the soul) and yelled (many a time) to “TEXT WHEN YOU GET HOME TEXT TEXT TEXT niorenbfodnhruwsdhbning *inaudible sounds of nothingness*
To my sister who came back home during the early hours in the morning,
I got home safely.
Hope you had your 4G on because I imessaged you instead,
